First of all You need to have an account on wikidot and You have to be logged in! Otherwise You will get such answer:

You have more methods to start a new wiki-site:

• over the main page http://www.wikidot.com/ - where you will find some links in the * side (Get your free wiki now! )
• or main frame ( Get a free Wiki )

• or You start the Tour ( I would recommend to have a look anyway!) with following "Page name" ( in the Url): http://www.wikidot.com/tour:what

• or you put directly the adress in the Url ( or use this link here) "http://www.wikidot.com/new-site" - where the other methods land.

At the end You land on the first Setup screen for a new Wiki-Site:

I recommend to read the Terms_of_Service really! You should know the conditions how You can use the wikidot.com.

The input-fields in detail:

• Site name: You can change it later (as "admin" only!) to another Title in the Site manager / Settings.

• Tagline: is the little description we always await under a Site-name. Again You can (or have to) enter it later in the Settings.

• Webadress: this is the "Internet-name" (together with .wikidot.com) of Your Site in the (Url)address-bar. There are only letters , digits and hyphen ( -) allowed. Theoretically You can change this later, but is not easy…

• Site content language: this radio switches ( now between english and polish) is a little confusing: this means the first generation of all the necessary pages within Your Site( navigation-menus, welcome pages, Site manager module and so on). You can write all text in Your Pages in any language which You want to use! Only the first "preset" is build in the language you have chosen. You can change most of the pages to Your language later..

• Private site? This check-box is the switch to limitations of users allowed, but a "closed" group can work together in a secure place. You can change this later in the public or private. If You want the site public and open for all visitors leave the box un-checked.

• Please confirm: if You have read and do agree with the Terms of Service You have to check this box - otherwise nothing will be started and You get an error-message:

If You have filled or checked/controlled all the input fields You have to click on the last button. This starts the physical creation of Your new and free Wikidot-Site - Congratulations and welcome in the wikidot-community!

You land on the Welcome page ( = "start") of Your own new Site!
